ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 Handheld Sells Out Across All Configurations
The premium gaming device and its high-end bundle are unavailable at major retailers shortly after launch, signaling strong market demand.
Key points
- The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 and its $2,499 bundle sold out at Best Buy and ASUS.com.
- Preorders began on August 25, giving the vendor ample time to prepare inventory.
- The device features a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip and a 7.4-inch OLED HDR display.
ASUS has sold out of its new ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld gaming device across all configurations. The inventory depletion includes both the standard $1,299 model and a premium $2,499 bundle, according to a report by Windows Central.
The devices are no longer available for purchase at Best Buy or directly through ASUS.com. Windows Central noted that stock disappeared sometime between Sunday and Monday, shortly after the device went on sale on October 15. The rapid sell-out occurred despite the high price point of the hardware.
Market Context and Pricing
The Ally X20 carries a $300 premium over the current ROG Xbox Ally X, which retails for $999. The $2,499 bundle includes the handheld, XREAL glasses, and a dBrand skin. Windows Central observed that the demand was unusually high, with internal click-through data from August showing significant interest. Preorders had been open since August 25, providing ASUS with nearly two months to anticipate sales volume.
The outlet suggested that the gaming sector remains resilient against broader economic pressures. Windows Central argued that gaming is one of the few price-proof areas in technology, insulated from economic realities that affect other consumer electronics. The report cited AI-driven demand for RAM and NAND storage as factors contributing to higher overall prices in the industry.
Device Specifications and Competitors
The Ally X20 Anniversary Edition features an upgraded Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip. It includes a 7.4-inch OLED HDR display and an 80 Wh battery. ASUS positioned the device as a sleeker and more efficient Windows gaming handheld, designed to offer sharper visuals and quieter thermals. The company marketed it as a celebration of its gaming legacy with longer play sessions.
Windows Central compared the Ally X20’s performance to other high-end handhelds. The outlet noted that the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ also sold out quickly despite a $1,799 MSRP. Resellers on eBay reportedly pushed prices for the MSI device up to $800 over retail, demonstrating similar consumer willingness to pay premiums for new gaming hardware.
What should you do?
Consumers interested in the device should monitor official retailer channels for restocks. The high demand suggests that secondary markets may see inflated prices. Users should verify the authenticity of any third-party sellers before purchasing.
