Key points

Amazon reduced the price of the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Max chip by $900.
The discounted configuration includes 36GB of memory and a 2TB solid-state drive.
Best Buy offers the same pricing for this model in both available color options.

Amazon has applied a $900 discount to the 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 Max processor. The retailer lists the device at $3,499, down from its standard price of $4,399, according to a report by MacRumors. This markdown represents the most significant price reduction observed for this specific computer model to date.

The discounted unit features 36GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. MacRumors identified this offer as the best price ever seen for this particular configuration. The deal applies to the 2026 model of the laptop. This pricing change follows a trend of increasingly steep discounts on MacBook Pro units over recent weeks.

Retail Availability and Options

The Amazon listing for the discounted laptop is limited to the Space Black color option. Buyers seeking the same pricing in other finishes can find a matching deal at Best Buy. That retailer offers the $3,499 price point for both available color variants of the machine. These offers remain live despite the end of Prime Day earlier in the month.

Other high-end Apple deals remain active online. A 16-inch MacBook Pro with 48GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD is available for $4,499, reflecting a $500 discount. Discounts on Mac mini and Mac Studio units are also still in effect. MacRumors notes that it is an affiliate partner with some vendors and may receive payments for purchases made through its links.

Who Is Affected

This pricing adjustment impacts consumers looking to purchase high-performance Apple laptops. The M5 Max chip is featured in the 16-inch MacBook Pro model. The availability of the deal at both Amazon and Best Buy provides options for buyers who prefer one retailer over the other or need a specific color choice.

The discount applies to a specific high-memory configuration. The persistence of deals on Mac mini and Mac Studio units indicates that notable sales are still available online. MacRumors suggests visiting their Apple Deals roundup for a recap of the best Apple-related bargains of the past week.

What should you do?

Consumers interested in this pricing should verify current stock levels at both retailers, as high-demand items can sell out quickly. Buyers should compare the total cost, including any applicable taxes or shipping fees, before finalizing a purchase. Those who do not need the 36GB RAM configuration might find better value in lower-tier models if discounts exist for them. It is advisable to check return policies at both Amazon and Best Buy in case the hardware does not meet specific performance expectations.

What to do and how to stay safe: Apple

Verify the current availability of the discounted model at your preferred retailer before attempting to purchase.
Compare the total out-of-pocket cost, including taxes and shipping, between Amazon and Best Buy to ensure the best deal.
Confirm that the 36GB RAM and 2TB SSD configuration meets your specific performance requirements before buying.
Review the return policies of the retailer to understand the timeframe for returns if the device is not as expected.
